Mark Matheson
Hockey Tragic

Known in hockey circles by his nickname, Matho, Mark is an accomplished team administrator. Backed by over 40 years experience playing up to Premier League 1 hockey in both open and masters competitions, Mark also earned state/provincial representative honours in both New Zealand and Australia.

Primarily focused on masters hockey, Mark continues to contribute to the hockey community by managing and coaching teams in both club and representative competitions.

COVID restrictions curtailed Mark's initial appearance at a Masters Hockey World Cup, but an unexpected call-up in July 2022 saw him managing the Australian Men's Over 40's to a Silver Medal in Nottingham in August 2022. Matho capped off his 2022 season by managing the Australian Championship winning NSW 40/1's.

May 2023 saw Matho managing the Australian Men's Over 35's to a series win in the Trans-Tasman competition in Christchurch and then backed that up in October 2023, managing the NSW 40/1's when they retained the Australian title they won in 2022.

The national title was surrended to a strong Victoria side in 2024, with the NSW 40/1's finishing 4th. A trip to Cape Town with the Australian 35's saw the team grab a World Cup Bronze medal after losing to England in a tight semi-final.

Matho is again managing the Australian 35's in 2025, due to appear at the Trans-Tasman tournament in Cairns in May.
